One of the questions we get asked most often is, “What do I do with my roses\u00a0after they’re delivered?” Don’t\u00a0panic! The process of re-hydrating and caring for your wholesale flowers (i.e., making sure you don’t ruin them before your DIY event) is actually really simple. We’ve broken down the steps for caring for your roses to ensure they’re looking their best for the big day!<\/p>\n

Step by Step Care Guide for Cut Wholesale Roses<\/h2>\n

1. Take the roses out of the box.\u00a0<\/strong>After you carefully open the box, remove the insulation around the roses.<\/p>\n

2. Next, you should carefully remove the roses from their packaging. <\/strong>Looking at the top of the package, you will only see about 12 rose buds. Again, don’t panic! Roses are wrapped in 2 layers and then rolled up into the cardboard, but if you remove the packaging and you will see all 25 stems. You may need the packaging after you prep them, so don’t\u00a0tear it apart or throw it away!<\/p>\n

3. Prepare the roses.\u00a0<\/strong>Once you unroll the roses from their packaging, you should begin to prepare them immediately. Don’t worry if they look a little smooshed or sleepy! They’ve traveled a very long way to get to you, so they need a little TLC to become beautiful again. Cut off any thorns and remove all of the leaves from the lower half of the stem. This will help keep the water free of the dirty leaves and germs and extend the life of your flowers!<\/p>\n

4. Remove the guard petals.<\/strong>\u00a0You’ll notice some brown or bruised tips on the outer petals \u2013 this is totally normal! The outer petals are known as \u201cguard petals\u201d for a reason – they protect the inner petals from damage during the shipping process. You can remove up to about 10 petals from each rose by carefully pulling each petal from side to side until it pops away from the stem!<\/p>\n

5. After the guard petals are removed, cut the stems. <\/strong>You’ll need to cut 1-2\u201d off of each stem at a 45\u00b0 angle and place them directly into clean, lukewarm water in a clean container.<\/p>\n

6. Next, place roses in a container to re-hydrate with flower food, supporting the stems if they feel weak.\u00a0<\/strong>If the stem beneath the bloom feels weak, you should take the leftover packaging and wrap it back around all of the stems while they re-hydrate. During shipping, roses focus all their energy on preserving their blooms, which can cause the neck of the stem to lose its\u00a0firm feeling.<\/p>\n

7. Re-hydrate like a pro.\u00a0<\/strong>Allow your roses to re-hydrate like this for at least 6 hours,\u00a0<\/strong>then unwrap them again so they can start blooming. Keep the roses in a cool environment, and always make sure that their containers are always approximately half full. If you see the water line dropping, that means they\u2019ll need more soon! Make sure the roses aren\u2019t crowded in the containers you\u2019re re-hydrating them in, which will stop them from blooming.<\/p>\n

8. After they’ve fully re-hydrated, start arranging!<\/strong>\u00a0Give each stem a fresh trim and make sure the water in your vases is lukewarm and clean leading up to the big day. After your DIY event, trim them and refresh the water every 2-3 days to extend their vase life!<\/p>\n
