Just kidding about the last one, but giving your DIY blooms love and the right amount of attention is crucial for ensuring they look stunning on your\u00a0big day! How you care for your flowers directly affects their \u201cvase life,\u201d or how long they last after you receive them. Properly caring for flowers isn\u2019t as hard as it seems, but we\u2019ll show you how to do flower care right &#8211; and the wrong way to do it, too!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>To get started, here are our 3 tops tips for fresh cut flower care:<\/h2>\n<ol>\n<li>Prepare <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/flower-containers\/13-x-7-cooler-bucket-black_9857\/\">buckets for re-hydrating your flowers<\/a> and clean thoroughly them &#8211; any bacteria or chemicals in the water will shorten their vase life!<\/li>\n<li>Never put fresh flowers in your refrigerator! Find a cool (not cold!) place, like a basement or a garage, to store your flowers while they&#8217;re re-hydrating and after you arrange them.<\/li>\n<li>Keep fresh flowers\u00a0away from drafts, heating vents, and sunny windows while re-hydrating and\u00a0arranging them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><center><iframe class=\"giphy-embed\" src=\"\/\/giphy.com\/embed\/xUA7aRHFUaQrcWx0li\" width=\"480\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/center>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2>Day 1 Flower Care<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12412 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both vases of hydrangeas get the same treatment \u2013 snipped stems, sliced up the middle, placed in warm water. The only difference is that the vase on the right had AquaPlus flower food added to the water and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/wholesale-flower-food\/floralife-clear-crowning-glory-solution-32oz_9903\/\">Crowning Glory<\/a> sprayed on the blooms and leaves. The vase on the left was left as is. We left the hydrangeas to sit overnight while they re-hydrate.<\/p>\n<h2>Day 2 Flower Care<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12409 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost2-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost2-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost2-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost2-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Both sets of hydrangeas are still looking great! If you look closely, you&#8217;ll see that all of the blooms have filled out and gotten bigger overnight. We added some clean, warm water to the vase on the right, and kept the vase on the left as is. You&#8217;ll also notice in the vase on the left that the water level has dropped since the day before. Then let both vases sit over night again.<\/p>\n<h2>Day 3 Flower Care<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12410 size-large\" title=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost3-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost3-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost3-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost3-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost3-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s not looking good for the hydrangeas on the left &#8211; the blooms on two of the stems have wilted, and the water level has dropped so much that the stems are almost fully out of the water. Meanwhile, the hydrangeas on the right are happy as clams! We replaced the water in the vase on the right with warn, fresh water, added a little <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/wholesale-flower-food\/foralife-crystal-clear-flower-food-300-1pt-.5l-packet-x250_9832\/\">flower food<\/a>, and snipped about a half inch off of the bottom of the stems just for good measure.<\/p>\n<h2>Day 4 Flower Care<\/h2>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12411 size-large\" title=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" src=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost4-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"Flower Care Comparison by Blooms by the Box\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost4-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost4-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost4-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.bloomsbythebox.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/03\/CareCompPost4-768x576.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>All three stems have drooped and died in the vase on the left, as you can see. The hydrangeas on the right are still looking great, though!
