Common Names: Glads, Gladiola, Sword Lily

Our fancy orange gladiolus blooms go hand-in-hand with tropical-themed and beach destination weddings. Tall and majestic (stem lengths range between 3 and 4 feet!) they create beautiful, lush floral designs with extraordinary height. Native to South Africa, Europe, and the Mediterranean area, gladioli get their name from the Latin word “gladius,” which means sword. Because of their association with swords, they represent strength, integrity, and trust. Did you know that they also mean infatuation? When given to someone, the sender is telling the recipient, “You pierce my heart.”

These versatile flowers can be incorporated into the floral décor of any celebratory occasion. They look especially striking when arranged with stems of Bird of Paradise and exotic greenery for tropical-inspired nuptials. They also look stunning all on their own when grouped together to create grand table centerpieces. Love their look, but don’t need all those long stems? Six to eight blooms that range from 2 to 4 inches in width come on each stem and can be cut and made into boutonnieres and corsages.

Suggestions: Gladiolus are slower to bloom than most flowers, so we recommend having them delivered about 4 days before your event. To speed up the blooming process, we recommend removing the top bud from each stem as soon as you receive them, rehydrate them in warm water, and placing them in indirect sunlight before arranging them.
