1. Time is money – get the flowers in water ASAP

As soon as the flowers arrive, hydration is key. Because they’ve spent a day out of water, it’s imperative to get them hydrated as soon as possible. We recommend signing up for FedEx delivery manager so you can track your package and get updated upon arrival. Unpack the flowers immediately and place the stems in clean, room-temperature water.

2. Cut stems with a clean floral scissor at an angle

Use clean, sharp floral scissors or pruners to trim the ends of each stem at a 45-degree angle. This allows the flowers to absorb maximum water and helps prevent the stems from sitting flat at the bottom of the bucket.

3. Remove all foliage below the waterline

Leaves submerged in water will rot quickly and encourage bacteria to grow, which can shorten the life of your flowers. Strip all foliage that would fall below the waterline to keep things fresh and clean. Even loose foliage that is in danger of breaking or falling off the stem should be removed, as well as delicate or soft foliage.

4. Change out water daily

Fresh water is crucial for healthy blooms. Make it a habit to change the water every day, clean the bucket or vase too if it seems like the water is murky or not fresh. This simple step goes a long way in extending vase life.

5. Store in a cool, dry place

Until you are ready to use the flowers, store them in a cool, shaded area. Basements or garages are ideal. You want to avoid direct sunlight and drafts, which can cause flowers to wilt faster.

6. Give your blooms space to breathe

Don’t overcrowd your buckets. Flowers need space for air to circulate around each stem. Overcrowding can lead to bruising especially on delicate blooms such as larkspur, stock, ranunculus, delphinium, and lisianthus. Let your flowers spread out so they can shine bright and last long!

7. Use Crowning Glory

This professional floral spray is a game changer. It seals in moisture and provides a protective layer to prevent dehydration. It’s used on arrangements & bouquets as a finishing touch to lock in freshness. It’s a florists best friend and we can’t recommend Crowning Glory enough!
