The flower industry is currently experiencing an unprecedented shortage of flowers and rising costs. Flower prices have gone up, and the floral industry is scrambling. To continue being transparent and help you understand what’s going on with flower shortages and higher prices, we want to share information about the current situation that is out of Bloom’s control.
Flower Shortage and Higher Prices
We understand how stressful things have been recently and are doing our best to fill your orders and offer appropriate subs for unavailable items. While no one knows how long this will last, we believe these shortages will continue through the end of the year and possibly into the 2022 wedding season. We promise to continue keeping everyone in the loop and remaining as transparent as possible! Here is a clear breakdown of the causes and some helpful tips to relieve the stress.
Covid Pandemic
Covid forced farmers to shut down their farms during the lockdown and pull outcrops as they didn’t have staff to keep them going. They are now playing catch-up, which takes time.
Extreme Weather
Growing regions are experiencing extreme weather- droughts and storms- worldwide, slowing down the growing process or rendering many unusable crops.
Demand has Skyrocketed
During the Pandemic, people turned to flowers to send loved ones they couldn’t see in person and used them in their own homes to brighten up their quarantine process. In addition, as states opened back up, weddings and events have returned in full force, with two years’ worth of weddings happening in one! The supply has not yet been able to catch up with this sheer volume of events happening.
Costs Have Risen
Other products and industries have also experienced rising costs, which affects our industry. Most notably, transportation costs, with delivery rates at a premium and drivers in high demand.
Order Early!
There is not much we can do to speed up Mother Nature, but we can offer a couple of tips to help relieve stress. We cannot STRESS enough to our customers the importance of placing your order early right now. While placing the order early, it does not guarantee there will be no substitutions, but it gives us time to source the flowers in high demand.
Be Flexible with Substitutions Offered!
We understand it is a bummer if we cannot get your favorite flower, but this flower shortage does not mean you have to be without beautiful flowers. We can use plenty of beautiful flowers for substitutions, but it is essential to remember to be flexible during this time.
And most importantly, we are doing our best to help all of you fulfill your order with beautiful flowers and make your dream come true.
