As we wrap up another year, I can’t help but look back on some of my favorite flower trends of 2010. I hope to see them again in 2011, but with the new year comes new trends, so we’ll have to wait and see. Anyway, here’s my top five.

1. Texture

This year both brides and their floral designers seemed to pay a lot of attention to texture in both bouquets and arrangements. The monofloral bouquet seemed to be long forgotten, as fillers and greenery accented most bridal bouquets.

2. Bouquet wraps and charms

In 2010, the exposed stem look went out the window as brides wrapped their bouquets in ribbon or even a family heirloom. Brides also paid even more attention to detail this year, as bouquet charms were exceedingly popular.

3. Smaller floral arrangements

Instead of tall, lavish centerpieces, brides of 2010 opted for smaller, elegant floral arrangements. A flower in a single vase here, an arrangement there, this year’s brides seemed to incorporate more than one arrangement style in their reception.

4. Assorted vases

This trend goes hand in hand with trend #3. In 2010, some brides used fewer flowers in their centerpieces, so to make their “less” look “more,” the use of different vases was essential. Instead of just one vase holding one floral arrangement, brides used multiples of different heights and shapes.

And last, but definitely not least…

5. DIY (of course!)

Out of all the trends I have previously listed, I’m positive this one is going to stick around for years to come. DIY was overwhelmingly popular in 2010, because, well let’s face it… time’s were tough, and brides had to get creative. Some brides had to go the DIY route to save money, while others just wanted to be crafty. Either way, there were some of the gorgeous DIY weddings this year!
