Known for their feathery, fern-like foliage and tiny, flattened flower clusters, yellow yarrow flowering plants add a vibrant pop of color to any arrangement. Yarrow is a member of the Asteraceae family (the same family that produces daisies and sunflowers) and can be found growing wildly in meadows and fields. This charming plant makes the perfect finishing touch to a bouquet of springtime wildflowers or autumn rustic centerpieces. Introduced to North America by the early colonists, yarrow was prized not only for its beauty but for its many medicinal uses. Yarrow often accompanied soldiers on the battlefield to help heal wounds and was used to treat fevers, hemorrhaging and as a poultice for rashes. This healing plant can be traced back to Neanderthal burial caves as far back as 60,000 years and has also been associated with magic and spiritual powers to offer protection.
Yarrow flowers make great filler and provide color and texture to endless floral designs. The long-lasting flower heads can also be dried to be enjoyed long after your special occasion has taken place.
